The Mazda RX-8 is a breathtaking car from any angle. Its strikingly smooth exterior has been achieved by eliminating the gaps between exterior parts to provide a more precise fit and finish.
Design details representing the unique RENESIS rotary engine feature throughout the car - on the gear stick, the head rest, even the brake light. This painstaking attention to detail also includes the appearance of the engine compartment. The engine cover, which is designed to complement the high performance image of the RENESIS rotary engine closely conforms to the height and shape of the parts it conceals.

Two choices, one spirit
Driving your Mazda RX-8 will inspire you with complete confidence. At the heart of the Mazda RX-8 lies the new RENESIS rotary engine.
When you buy the new Mazda RX-8, you'll be able to choose from two variations of the RENESIS powertrain: The High Power specification (170kw@8200rpm with a 9000 rpm limit) and the standard power unit (141kw@7000rpm with a 7500 rpm limit). Both offer breathtaking performance with exceptional handling and road holding.
The RENESIS engine is uncommonly compact, which provides an ideal mounting position for the entire powertrain - low and behind the front axle. This low centre of gravity and unique powertrain location means that the Mazda RX-8 has near perfect 50/50 weight distribution - giving it exceptional agility and responsiveness.
As well as the entire powertrain being mounted behind the front axle, the fuel tank is mounted in front of the rear axle. This concentrates the weight mass near the theoretical yaw axis and greatly contributes to the feeling of oneness between the Mazda RX-8 and the driver. The result is the thrilling drive of a classic sports car.
Precision control handling is provided by the newly developed double wishbone front suspension. A new multi-link rear suspension provides lateral stiffness for excellent handling and response while providing longitudinal compliance for outstanding stability, ride comfort and low road noise.
Finally the optional Dynamic Stability Control will both enhance your driving and act as an active safety feature. It monitors your wheel speeds, steering angles, braking function and yaw rate and applies brake force accordingly to one or more wheels, helping to reduce engine output and prevent skids

Versatile, innovative thinking
As well as sleek sports styling, the Mazda RX-8 contains enough room to make it a truly practical car for everyday use. The newly developed freestyle door system allows the compact looking sports style cabin in combination with the convenience of easy access.
The rear door-opening angle is also set to optimally reduce the effort of door opening. Lightweight aluminium rear door construction and absence of centre pillars assure smooth and effortless door operation and a spacious door opening area. Loading baggage onto the rear seats also becomes supremely easy.
In addition, a 290-litre trunk volume means you'll have enough room to hold two suitcases or golf bags. The console box also incorporates a new idea in space efficient stowage: the lid, which doubles as an armrest slides rearward to reveal two cup holders behind the gearshift lever. In its rearmost position the console box opens to reveal storage for four CD cases.

Unique reassurance
The Mazda RX-8 is a car with exceptional safety standards. A wide range of safety features and the unique centre-opening freestyle door configuration offer advanced protection in the event of an accident.
Essential to the Mazda RX-8's freestyle door system is a standard of side impact safety comparable with the typical four-door sedan. Extensive reinforcement of the inside of the rear doors and significantly improved body side strength achieves world-class safety performance.
A driver's side SRS airbag with dual stage deployment and a passenger's side SRS airbag are featured as well as curtain and side airbags. The car also has an intrusion minimising brake pedal to help reduce foot and leg injuries in a frontal collision. Pedestrian safety is also considered with the aluminium hood having a cone-type construction to absorb and cushion impacts in the event of a car-pedestrian accident. And active safety is greatly enhanced with large diameter disc brakes giving ample stopping power when stopping suddenly. You and your passengers have fantastic all-round protection.
